The Process | A Baby Shower for Catherine

1. Catherine's Request

Catherine came to me looking for natural, whimsical arrangements for her woodland themed baby shower. Completely trusting, she told me they were using soft pinks and yellows and aside from that gave me total creative freedom to create something sweet for her event.

2. Inspiration

For each event, I like to plan a floral "feel"by pinning different stems to a pinterest board. This helps to nail down the color palette and style, and is super useful when it comes time to order flowers. Often the plans change based on availability, but this inspiration board is a great starting place. Here is the inspiration board I created for Catherine's shower:

I knew I would have beautiful pink and cream zinnias to cut from my garden, and included sweet textures like orlaya, yarrow, and fern. Her shower date was just on the cusp of dahlia season, so if available I planned to use petite, soft pink dahlias.

3. The Flowers

When it came time to order Catherine's flowers, I referenced the inspiration board I created and scoured the available stems to create a similar feeling palette.

It was just a bit too early for dahlia, so I used a petite pink spray rose instead, which felt perfect for a baby shower. You can see that the zinnia, lisianthus, and fern all made it onto the final plan. I was able to order a similar rose, and added whimsical textures like scabiosa pods, helleborus, and sweet pink astilbe.

4. The Result

Catherine's arrangements were so fun to create. I used shallow terra cotta dishes, and each petite centerpiece was different and had a unique personality. I love cutting from my garden and foraging for textures, and the zinnia, grasses, fern, and caladium I cut for these arrangements were so important to giving it a unique, woodland garden feel. Two large arrangements were featured on dramatic window sills, and I just loved the way they looked at the venue!
